Water Safe Crystals: Are Your Crystals Safe To Put In The Water?

Water cleansing is one powerful way to energetically clean and recharge crystals. However, some crystals are water-sensitive and risk being dissolved or rusted when exposed to water. So they should be cleansed with different methods in order to ensure their safety and longevity.

As a general rule, you should only water cleanse crystals that have a rating of 6 or above on the Mohs hardness scale.

What is the Mohs hardness scale?

The Mohs hardness scale is a qualitative measure of the scratch resistance of various minerals. It rates crystals from 1 to 10, with 1 being the softest and 10 being the hardest. Most gemstones fall in the range of 5-7, with a few measuring 8 or 9. Diamond is the hardest natural mineral with a rating of 10.

For crystals to be safe in the water, they should have a Mohs hardness rating of 6 or higher. It’s also important to note that there are going to be some exceptions so doing due diligence before cleaning your crystals can be beneficial.

Here is a list of some of the most popular healing crystals and whether or not they are safe to put in water.
